Today we present a concert of Baroque works from a varied range of composers including Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Rameau, Arne, Boyce and others, including performances of all kinds from solo instrumentalists to chamber groups to full orchestral ensembles (and the odd electronic realisation). And lots of twiddly bits.

You’ll hear recorder concertos from Vivaldi, keyboard variations from Bach, Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and Water Music suites, and works by Boyce including the Shepherd’s Lottery — and lots more.

Main: The Early Music Show

Today on our Main Stream, tune in for a day of Early Music performances. The music comes primarily from the Renaissance period, and features pieces from many parts of Western Europe. However, there are some renditions of a few Mediæval pieces too — and some ideas about how even earlier music might have sounded. Many of the performances use original instruments and attempt to recreate the authentic sound of the pieces at the time they were written. There are also some rousing modern interpretations.
