Main: New Age and The Black Mass

As we are between Christmas and New Year, today we’re playing relaxing New Age tracks to help you wind down after the hectic period just past.

But in addition, we have a ghostly treat for you in the tradition of Ghost Stories At Christmas, in the form of episodes of the classic landmark radio drama series The Black Mass, which we’ll be broadcasting at the even-numbered hours throughout the day.

Featuring dramatisations of short stories by writers including Dostoevsky and Gogol as well as more characteristically chilling authors such as Bram Stoker, Edgar Allen Poe and H P Lovecraft, The Black Mass was a series of 30 ground-breaking radio dramas, created in the 1960s at the world’s first subscriber-funded radio station, Pacifica station KPFA in Berkeley, California, by Erik Bauersfeld, John Whiting and their associates. We are honoured to be able to present this series thanks to permission from the late Erik Bauersfeld, with audio materials from John Whiting, who performed most of the original audio production.
