Swing Song from The Nightingale: The Great American Songbook

Great American Songbook

It’s the fourth Sunday of the month and that means it is time for Swing Songs from The Nightingale. Gabrielle Riel broadcasts Big Band, Swing and Electro-Swing live on both Radio Riel’s main stream and Radio Riel Dieselpunk from 6:00pm — 7:30pm North American Pacific time. This month the Swing Songs musical theme is the Great American Songbook.

The Great American Songbook is comprised of the most popular American Standards from the mid-20th Century, many of which entered the scene as music from Broadway and films. There is no concrete list of all of the composers that contribute to the songbook; however some of the composers that are often included in songbook compilations are: Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer and Cole Porter. Tonight’s program features both classic Big Band and Electro Swing from these composers.
