Ishq Sufiana — Sufi passion.

Tonight, Monday Night at Madhu’s Café features music inspired by Sufi traditions, a mystical and musical strain of Islam.  Sufi songs are devotional poems of love and passion — songs of love and desire, yet addressed (at least in part) to God.

Focusing on music from North India and Pakistan, we will hear traditional qawwalis — mystical, poetic, and energetic love songs — such as the music of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Abida Parveen.  We will also hear explore Bollywood’s take on the qawwali form, both in traditional style and modern versions sometimes called “techno qawwali” or “disco qawwali,” including songs by A.R. Rahman and other composers.   And, we will hear pop and rock music after the Sufi tradition, such as the energetic and beautiful songs of Kailash Kher.

Come hang out at Madhu’s Café Indien and enjoy the spiritual sounds tonight from 6–8:30PM SLT.  Or, listen in on Radio Riel Main.  Either way, we hope you will join us!
