Thomas Arne and the Baroque

Today’s extend­ed broad­cast includes a selec­tion of Baroque over­tures and con­cer­tos, includ­ing works by the British com­pos­er Thomas Arne, who is remem­bered today vir­tu­al­ly sole­ly for pen­ning Rule Bri­tan­nia, but also wrote many oth­er works of inter­est and was a major force in British music of the peri­od. We hear eight of his Over­tures, plus works by Rameau, Hän­del, J S Bach and Vival­di, includ­ing the lat­ter’s Con­cer­tos for Recorder and Orches­tra.
