Thomas Arne and the Baroque

in Daily Programme

by Elrik Merlin on Monday, 5 November, 2007

Today’s extended broadcast includes a selection of Baroque overtures and concertos, including works by the British composer Thomas Arne, who is remembered today virtually solely for penning Rule Britannia, but also wrote many other works of interest and was a major force in British music of the period. We hear eight of his Overtures, plus works by Rameau, Händel, J S Bach and Vivaldi, including the latter’s Concertos for Recorder and Orchestra.
