The Light Programme

Welcome to our monthly programme of British Light Music — which will in future, all being well, go out on the last Saturday of the month.

This time we have contributions from some of the great bands of the 30s and 40s, along with film music and other compositions from major figures in British Light Music at the middle of the last century — such as Coates, Alwyn and Addinsell.

The picture shows a London Midland and Scottish Railway poster advertising the Coronation Scot service with its streamlined Coronation class locomotive — inspiration for the theme by Vivian Ellis to the long-running BBC radio series Paul Temple, which we’ll hear today.

Then join us at 11am and 7pm Pacific Time — 19:00 and 03:00 GMT for the latest instalments of our exciting radio adventures in the ZBS Radio Hour — brought to you by our friends at ZBS Foundation.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin and produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with our friends at the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme in-world now at, or simply click here to start your player, if your browser is configured to do so.
