The Early Music Show, feat. Blondel

blondelToday we’re presenting a programme of Early Music, featuring this time the gorgeous debut album by Blondel: Zephirus: his sweete breeth. Blondel, a UK-based Early Music group consisting of Belinda Paul, Emily Baines, Lizzie Gutteridge and Daniel Serafini, performs Mediæval and Renaissance music on shawms, bagpipes, curtals, recorders and early brass instruments. And brilliant they are too. Read more about them here. You can buy the album at CDBaby as a disc or a download.

The music for today’s programme also includes a great many other artists, and comes primarily from the Renaissance period,  with music from many parts of Western Europe. However, there are some lively renditions of a few Mediæval pieces too. Many of the performances use original instruments and attempt to recreate the authentic sound of the pieces at the time they were written.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin. If you are in the United States or Canada, please click here to launch the Stream Licensing player. You can also listen via TuneIn.
