Piano Jazz

Today* we present a programme of jazz on the keys from a variety of periods. The emphasis is on piano, but you’ll also hear some great pieces performed on electronic keyboards including some marvellous compositions by Ian Lynn – notably his Forgotten Summer, presented in two seamless parts corresponding to the complete sides of the original vinyl album.

The ZBS Radio Hour

Then at 11am or 7pm Pacific Time, that’s 19:00 or 03:00 GMT, tune in for the final episode of Jack Flanders in Dreams of Rio – followed by a nice little curio: a collection of ZBS Foundation’s Two Minute Film Noir series — a marvellous collection of tales with a Noir feel. Don’t miss it!

After today’s programme, the ZBS Radio Hour will be taking a short break – but it’ll be back in the Autumn.

*So why aren’t we broadcasting a programme of Classic Electronica to celebrate the birth of Lev Sergeyevich Termen (aka Léon Theremin, inventor of the Theremin) yesterday? Well, apart from the fact that we did one just the other week, his birth date was August 15 1896 in the old-style calendar in use in Russia at the time, and that corresponds to August 27 in the calendar we use today. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it (writes Elrik Merlin).

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin. If you are in the United States or Canada, please click here to launch the Stream Licensing player. To listen from outside North America, click here to start your player .
