Pastorale

Today on Radio Riel, we present a programme of music evoking the countryside and rural life.

Mainly, but not exclusively, classical and light classical in nature, we’ll hear music like Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and the beautiful but lesser known Symphony No 3 from Vaughan Williams. There’s The Lark Ascending and many other beautiful relaxing classics, and some tuneful light classics like Ketelbey’s In A Lover’s Garden Suite and Paul Reade’s Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite. You’ll also hear a number of orchestral arrangements of (mainly English) folk tunes by Vaughan Williams, Holst, Tomlinson and others.

In addition, you’ll hear some relaxing ‘smooth jazz’ and New Age pieces, again with a rural air.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.
