New(ish) Music Grab Bag 6–8:30PM SLT

II’ve been picking up lots of music again of late.

For tonight’s Monday Night World Music we’ll have a little worldbeat grab bag where I’ll highlight some of these recent acquisitions.

Included in the mix — selections from Radio Africa, the recent album ofFreshlyground, a fantastic South African band I had the great pleasure of hearing live a couple of weeks ago; the smooth sounds of Brazil’s CéU, on her 2009 album Vagarosa; and the mesmerizing voice of Algeria’s Souad Massi on her 2008 release Honeysuckle.

Also in the mix — lots of great Rai (fusion from North Africa), Afrobeat, and other odds and ends.

It’s not all brand new music, but it’s all new to me, and that means it’s to new Monday Night World Music too. And tonight from 6–8:30PM SLT I’ll be queuing it all up to share with you. Come by for a selection of “new to us” tunes, most of which have never been featured on the show before.

Come hang out with me (Carter) and enjoy the newness! You can join us in world at Madhu’s Café Indien, or listen in on Radio Riel’s main stream. Hope to see you there!
