Music of the Classical Period

Joseph Haydn

Radio Riel kicks off your week with a program of music from composers of the Classical period of Western music (1730 — 1820).

Today’s program on our main stream features works from Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Gluck, Soler, Clementi and more. The term “classical music” is used to generally describe Western music from the common practice period (1600 — 1900); however today’s program illustrates the music of the specific era referred to as the Classical period. Music of this era is lighter and less complex than the music of the Baroque period and it also features a wider range of contrasts with key changes and application of dynamics.

Today’s program is presented by Gabrielle Riel. To listen, click here to start your player . If you are in the United States, please use the following link: .
