World Mental Health Day — 10 October

World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. Click here for more information.

As part of this effort we are joining with other stations in Britain and elsewhere at 10:59 am this morning to rebroadcast the #MentalHealthMinute – a one‐minute message from some world famous voices to let everyone know that whoever you are, however you’re feeling and whatever you’re going through, it’s okay to say. The spot features The Duke of Cambridge, Prince Harry, Lady Gaga, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Jessica Ennis‐Hill & David Harewood. It was originally created for the UK’s Mental Health Awareness Week back in May. We’re broadcasting the spot at 10:59am UK time and again at 6:59pm, 2:59am, and 7:59 am UK time — that’s 2:59am, 10:59am, 6:59pm, and 11:59pm Pacific Time.

Today on Radio Riel we present a collection of music from the Victorian and Edwardian eras — “Vicwardiana”.

In fact the programme runs from around the mid‐19th Century to around the end of the First World War.

The show covers a wide range of musical styles and genres, from music‐hall songs to parlour ballads, from classical pieces to waltzes and dance‐hall music, and music from mechanical instruments of the period (plus some rather more recent, but you’ll have to spot them). Recordings are a mixture of modern and period performances.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.
