Main: Pomp & Pageant

in Daily Programme

by Elrik Merlin on Wednesday, 11 November, 2015

With Sir Edward Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance Marches in mind, today we bring you a collection of music often with regal and ceremonial connections, largely (though not entirely) with a British flavour.

We’ll take you on a celebration of impressive and stately music from the likes of Elgar, Holst, Bliss, Parry (listen out for the marvellous Blest Pair of Sirens), Boyce, Handel, Arne and a little Rameau.

Well, it’s not all regal: you’ll hear, for example, Elgar’s Nursery Suite, conducted by the composer in an historic recording, along with one or two other surprises.
