Main: From the Library: Music of Yesteryear

Today on Radio Riel in our 10th Anniversary Week we return to our roots as we present a collection of music from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It’s typical of the programming you would have heard on Radio Riel back in the days when we presented programming sponsored by the Caledon Library entitled “From The Library”. Today’s programme features music from the library of Elrik Merlin.

In fact the programme runs from around the mid-19th Century to around the end of the First World War.

The show covers a wide range of musical styles and genres, from music-hall songs to parlour ballads, from classical pieces to waltzes and dance-hall music, and music from mechanical instruments of the period (plus some rather more recent, but you’ll have to spot them). Recordings are a mixture of modern and vintage.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin. If you are in the United States, please click here to launch the Stream Licensing player.
