Main: Anniversary of the Moon Landing

in Daily Programme, Radio Riel Main

by Edward Pearse on Friday, 20 July, 2012

Forty‐three years ago today, NASA successfully managed to get a man safely to the surface of the Moon and back. And with computers less powerful than your mobile phone.

For many it was hoped that this would pave the way to an age of space exploration with Lunar and Martian colonies and orbiting space stations. Sadly, reality hit home not long after, and within 6 years apathy and budget cuts had closed down the Moon Landing program.

Perhaps one day there may be a permanent colony on the Moon, but it’s still decades away from becoming a reality.

Today’s music features a variety of popular artists who have recorded a song dealing with space in some way, as well as a whooooole bunch of science fiction movie soundtracks.

Today’s programme is presented by Edward Pearse. You can listen to the programme in‐world now at, or simply click here to start your player, if your browser is configured to do so. Listeners in the United States are encouraged to tune in using this link:
