The day before yes­ter­day, August 6, 2012, the Amer­i­can movie and musi­cal com­pos­er Mar­vin Ham­lisch passed away at the age of 68. Today’s pro­gram on Radio Riel’s Main stream is a trib­ute to his work. You will hear music from the movies and Broad­way musi­cals writ­ten by Ham­lisch, as well as that of oth­er com­posers in those gen­res.

Mar­vin Ham­lisch was a musi­cal prodi­gy who was accept­ed into Jul­liard before he turned 7. He com­posed pro­lif­i­cal­ly in the 1970s and 1980s, and is one of two peo­ple, the oth­er being Richard Rodgers, to win an Emmy, a Gram­my, an Oscar, a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize.
