Jazz Around the World — 6–8:30PM SLT

Over the past couple of weeks, I (Carter) have been lucky enough to attend some super jazz performances.

So tonight’s Monday Night World Music will be an adventure in international jazz, featuring some of the performers I heard this month and many, many others.

Tonight’s set will include selections from the 3 Cohens — a trio of siblings (Yuval on soprano sax, Avishai on trumpet, and Anat on tenor sax and clarinet) from Israel who put on a rocking show I was at last week. Playing piano at that show was Aaron Goldberg, whom I saw a few months ago with Argentine pianist Guillermo Klein — you’ll hear them tonight, too. And, we’ll also hear Rudresh Mahanthappa, whose fusions of classical Indian sounds with modern jazz ideas made for another great show.

Also in the world-jazz mix, South Africa’s Hugh Masekela; Chile’s Claudia Acuna; Japan’s awesome Hiromi; more Indo-Jazz fusion from the likes of Fareed Haque and Vijay Iyer; and much, much more. This is a set you don’t want to miss. So come hang out and enjoy the grooves tonight from 6–8:30PM SLT. You can find us in world at Madhu’s Café Indien, or listen in on Radio Riel’s main stream. Hope to see you there!
