Jazz Around the World — 6–8:30PM SLT

Over the past cou­ple of weeks, I (Carter) have been lucky enough to attend some super jazz per­for­mances.

So tonight’s Mon­day Night World Music will be an adven­ture in inter­na­tion­al jazz, fea­tur­ing some of the per­form­ers I heard this month and many, many oth­ers.

Tonight’s set will include selec­tions from the 3 Cohens — a trio of sib­lings (Yuval on sopra­no sax, Avishai on trum­pet, and Anat on tenor sax and clar­inet) from Israel who put on a rock­ing show I was at last week. Play­ing piano at that show was Aaron Gold­berg, whom I saw a few months ago with Argen­tine pianist Guiller­mo Klein — you’ll hear them tonight, too. And, we’ll also hear Rudresh Mahan­thap­pa, whose fusions of clas­si­cal Indi­an sounds with mod­ern jazz ideas made for anoth­er great show.

Also in the world-jazz mix, South Africa’s Hugh Masekela; Chile’s Clau­dia Acu­na; Japan’s awe­some Hiro­mi; more Indo-Jazz fusion from the likes of Fareed Haque and Vijay Iyer; and much, much more.
