Happy Birthday Franz Joseph Haydn

Today’s program on Radio Riel’s Main stream is a celebration of the work of Austrian composer Joseph Haydn, whose 282nd birthday is today!

When it comes to the Classical period, the composer that receives all of the limelight today is Mozart; however Haydn was extremely famous at the time of his death and his contributions to music have earned him the monikers of “Father of the Symphony” and “Father of the String Quartet”. Those two things alone make Joseph Haydn one of the most influential composers of all time.

The repertoire today features primarily Haydn, although it also contains work from his friend and contemporary Mozart as well as his student Beethoven. We’ve added in some sprinklings of other composers of the Classical period in order to properly celebrate the birthday of Joseph Haydn!

Today’s program is presented by Gabrielle Riel. If you are in the United States, please click here to launch the Stream Licensing player. To listen from outside of the United States, click here to start your player .
