From the Library: Victorian Miscellany

Today on Radio Riel, please join us for a day of music from the Vic­to­ri­an and Edwar­dian eras. The pro­gramme will include pop­u­lar songs and bal­lads famil­iar to those of us who fre­quent the music-halls.

In addi­tion we shall be enjoy­ing some of the mar­vel­lous musi­cal con­fec­tions of Sir Arthus Sul­li­van and Mr Lionel Mon­ck­ton; and, from time to time, we shall regale you with the sounds of the lat­est in Mechan­i­cal Instru­men­ta­tion, includ­ing the famous Carousel Steam-Organ. We will also hear some music from the Band-stand at the Gar­dens of the Crys­tal Palace, Syden­ham.

We guar­an­tee that a most enjoy­able time is to be had by all.

Then please join us at 11am and 7pm SLT at the beau­ti­ful Claren­don Con­ser­va­to­ry in New Bab­bage ( to enjoy the fourth instal­ments of our two excit­ing ZBS Wire­less Dra­mas: The Fourth Tow­er of Inver­ness, in which our intre­pid hero Jack Flan­ders dis­cov­ers a num­ber of hith­er­to unknown aspects of his aun­t’s exten­sive res­i­dence; and our Sci­en­tif­ic Romance Ruby, which recounts the adven­tures of a Detec­tive who trav­els to a vari­ety of oth­er worlds appar­ent­ly pop­u­lat­ed by divers sor­did char­ac­ters. And don’t for­get that if you enjoy what you hear, you may find more of the same at the ZBS Foun­da­tion’s Aether­ic Jour­nal,
