From the Library: Victorian Miscellany

in Daily Programme

by Elrik Merlin on Saturday, 17 April, 2010

Today on Radio Riel, please join us for a day of music from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The programme will include popular songs and ballads familiar to those of us who frequent the music-halls.

In addition we shall be enjoying some of the marvellous musical confections of Sir Arthus Sullivan and Mr Lionel Monckton; and, from time to time, we shall regale you with the sounds of the latest in Mechanical Instrumentation, including the famous Carousel Steam-Organ. We will also hear some music from the Band-stand at the Gardens of the Crystal Palace, Sydenham.

We guarantee that a most enjoyable time is to be had by all.

Then please join us at 11am and 7pm SLT at the beautiful Clarendon Conservatory in New Babbage ( to enjoy the fourth instalments of our two exciting ZBS Wireless Dramas: The Fourth Tower of Inverness, in which our intrepid hero Jack Flanders discovers a number of hitherto unknown aspects of his aunt’s extensive residence; and our Scientific Romance Ruby, which recounts the adventures of a Detective who travels to a variety of other worlds apparently populated by divers sordid characters. And don’t forget that if you enjoy what you hear, you may find more of the same at the ZBS Foundation’s Aetheric Journal,
