From the Library: Tongue in Cheek…

…and Elsewhere. Today, Elrik Merlin presents a programme of musical comedy (and comical music, musical interludes, and simply funny stuff) that ranges from the 19th century with songs like Some Little Bug Is Going To Get You, through some of the music-hall novelty songs of the Edwardian era and later (and modern renditions thereof), to Noël Coward, Flanders & Swann and more recent artists such as Tom Lehrer, The Rutles, The Bonzos (including the late Vivian Stanshall’s epic Rawlinson End) and of course Monty Python.

Although there is little that could be called “explicit”, lyrically-speaking in today’s programme, there inevitably may be material that some might consider close to the edge in terms of content.

In amongst the comedy there are some pieces of light-hearted music that, while not strictly speaking “musical comedy”, should at least raise a smile.
