From the Library: Happy Birthday Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov!

Today marks the 166th anniver­sary of the birth of Russ­ian com­pos­er Niko­lai Rim­sky-Kor­sakov.  Rim­sky-Kor­sakov was one of The Five, the lead­ing group of 19th cen­tu­ry Russ­ian nation­al­ist com­posers.  In hon­or of his birth­day, our pro­gram today fea­tures his music, as well as music by com­posers that influ­enced him, and com­posers whom he influ­enced.  You will hear pieces by Mikhail Glin­ka, Mily Bal­akirev, Hec­tor Berlioz, Franz Liszt, Mau­rice Rav­el, Claude Debussy, Paul Dukas and Ottori­no Respighi.
