From the Library: Across the Channel

Today we feature classical music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries from both sides of the English Channel, including a variety of French and English composers of the period including Debussy, Delius, Ravel, Elgar and more.

The image, painted by E W Cocks around 1840, shows the first crossing of the Channel by balloon, by Blanchard in early 1785. The flight from Dover to near Calais took four and a half hours.
