From the Library — A Victorian Entertainment

Today’s programme in our series From the Library recreates a Victorian musical atmosphere, with a combination of original and modern recordings of popular songs and ballads of the Victorian era, plus recordings of mechanical instruments playing hit tunes of the times as might be found in the streets, public houses and parlours of Victorian society.

Also included in the programme is a selection of popular dance tunes performed both by full orchestra and by brass band in the style of the period.

From the Library is produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme now at http://music.radioriel.org. Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.
