Easy To Remember — The Great American Songwriters

Today we’re featuring songs from the Great American Songbook — with music by writers including Gershwin, Arlen, Berlin, Kern, Carmichael, Porter and many more.

Join us as we take a trip back to recall the Great American Songwriters and their songs — inspired by William Zinsser’s marvellous book Easy To Remember.

In particular, listen out for three modern performers you might not immediately associate with this material: British singer-songwriter and pianist Peter Skellern, noted for the enormous arrangements on his recordings (often including at least one if not all of brass band, choir and orchestra); UK ELO rocker and star producer Jeff Lynne, whose album Long Wave revisits many of the songs that were an influence in his childhood; and American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, singing with an orchestra arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins  in sessions produced by Derek Taylor.
