Easy To Remember — The Great American Songwriters

in Daily Programme, Monthly Programme, Radio Riel Main

by Elrik Merlin on Wednesday, 4 December, 2013

Today we’re featuring songs from the Great American Songbook — with music by writers including Gershwin, Arlen, Berlin, Kern, Carmichael, Porter and many more.

Join us as we take a trip back to recall the Great American Songwriters and their songs — inspired by William Zinsser’s marvellous book Easy To Remember.

In particular, listen out for three modern performers you might not immediately associate with this material: British singer-songwriter and pianist Peter Skellern, noted for the enormous arrangements on his recordings (often including at least one if not all of brass band, choir and orchestra); UK ELO rocker and star producer Jeff Lynne, who’s album Long Wave revisits many of the songs that were an influence in his childhood; and American singer-songwriter Harry Nilsson, singing with an orchestra arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins  in sessions produced by Derek Taylor.

It’s The MOST — Music from the Original Sound Track

Join us at 11am or 7pm Pacific Time — that’s 19:00 or 03:00 GMT — for the first of a brand new series of  monthly shows — The MOST — Music from the Original Sound Track.

Presented by Susannah on Radio Riel’s Main Stream, The MOST is dedicated to crime, spy, suspense, exploitation and psychedelic movie and television soundtracks from the 50’s, 60’s and beyond.

See separate entry for more details.
