Main: Classics on the Keys

Today we present a programme of classical and classical‐influenced keyboard music, featuring  a number of instruments but especially the piano.

You’ll hear a wealth of keyboard pieces — primarily on piano and harpsichord, but with other traditional keyboard instruments too — both solo and with other musical forces backing them.

We’ll also be featuring the beautiful recent album release of piano miniatures by Richard Harvey, performed by John Lenehan: Scénarios.

The main spread of the programme encompasses the Baroque and Classical periods, but you’ll also hear some more modern pieces including treatments of classical pieces, and some engaging little 19th century pieces that are less well‐known. Most of the time, there is a classical or baroque link in there somewhere, even if it’s not immediately obvious.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin from our studios in NE Scotland.  Click here to start your player if your browser is set up to pass streams to an external player or can play audio streams direct (many can).
