Classic Rock & Psychedelia — 1960s-70s

Today we’ll be beginning our new series, Zeeber Gold, from ZBS Foundation, featuring interviews with the movers and shakers, artists and musicians of the early 1970s.

Zeeber Gold: Joseph Campbell

The first programme in the series airs at 11am and 7pm Pacific Time (19:00 and 03:00 GMT) and features Irish American mythologist, writer and lecturer Joseph Campbell (1904 – 1987), best known for his work in comparative mythology and religion.

In honour of the launch of Zeeber Gold,  we are breaking with tradition a little and today presenting a programme of classic 1960s and 1970s rock music from both sides of the Atlantic (although it might be just a little bit biased towards the UK) on Radio Riel’s Main Stream.

In particular, given the nature of the Zeeber Gold series, we’re including as many “mind expanding” pieces as we can find, from the Small Faces’ Itchycoo Park and the Beatles’ Strawberry Fields to lesser-known items like excerpts from Dutch band Ekseption’s concept album Beggar Julia’s Time Trip. With any luck there will be some bands you’ve never heard of alongside the classics. Quatermass anyone?

We’re kicking off by playing in full the piece of music that we’re using to introduce the Zeeber Gold series: Rainbows In My Head (instrumental version) by Richard Myhill.

As the man says: Turn on, tune in, and enjoy!

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin. You can listen to the programme in-world now at http://main.radioriel.org, or simply click here to start your player, if your browser is configured to do so. Listeners in the United States are encouraged to tune in using this link: http://loudcity.com/stations/radio-riel/tune_in
