August 22 – Joaquin Gustav’s Tribute to Astor Piazzola

1–4pm slt Tribute Island

Tonight the talented Argentinian guitarist, Joaquin Gustva, will pay tribute to one of the most important tango composers of the late 20th century, Astor Piazolla.

Mr Piazzolla is popularly seen as revolutionising the genre by fusing the traditional tango with elements from jazz and classical music to create the ‘nuevo tango’ style. Then in 1955, back in Argentina, he formed the Octeto Buenos Aires and the nuevo tango developed into an established genre. His sound is ledgenary.

Much acclaimed SL artist, Joaquin Gustav, is a composer, director, teacher and artist rich in smooth Jazz sound, tempered with classical rock, and steeped in those south american sounds of Tango, Milonga, and Candombe. This will be an event not to be missed.

Following the concert, Soliel Snook will present two hours of Tango for your listening and dancing pleasure. Join us for Hot Tango on a Hot Summer Night or tune into
