African Musical Adventure — 6–8:30 PM SLT

Tonight’s Mon­day Night World Music takes you on a trip around the great con­ti­nent of Africa, and its diverse offer­ings of some of the best pop music in the world.

If you are famil­iar with African pop music, you already know what makes it so spe­cial. If not, you don’t want to miss this set — you’re in for a musi­cal treat.

Tune in to hear the gri­ots of Sene­gal and Mali, west African pop divas, Sahara blues, Nigeria’s Hi-Life and funk infu­sions, the unstop­pable grooves of the South African town­ships, Zimbabwe’s jit par­ty music, the haunt­ing jazz-tinged melodies of Ethiopia, and more.

Includ­ed in the mix: leg­ends like South Africa’s Miri­am Make­ba and Julu­ka, Benin’s Angelique Kid­jo, Senegal’s Yous­sou n’Dour and Baa­ba Maal; Nigeria’s Fela Kuti, and Zimbabwe’s Oliv­er Mtukudzi; and ris­ing young voic­es of Africa like Mali’s Tinari­wen and Oumou San­gare, Niger’s Bombi­no, Nigeria’s Asa, Ivory Coast’s Dobet Gna­hore, and South Africa’s Fresh­ly­ground.
