Tonight’s Monday Night World Music takes you on a trip around the great continent of Africa, and its diverse offerings of some of the best pop music in the world.

If you are familiar with African pop music, you already know what makes it so special. If not, you don’t want to miss this set — you’re in for a musical treat.

Tune in to hear the griots of Senegal and Mali, west African pop divas, Sahara blues, Nigeria’s Hi‐Life and funk infusions, the unstoppable grooves of the South African townships, Zimbabwe’s jit party music, the haunting jazz‐tinged melodies of Ethiopia, and more.

Included in the mix: legends like South Africa’s Miriam Makeba and Juluka, Benin’s Angelique Kidjo, Senegal’s Youssou n’Dour and Baaba Maal; Nigeria’s Fela Kuti, and Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi; and rising young voices of Africa like Mali’s Tinariwen and Oumou Sangare, Niger’s Bombino, Nigeria’s Asa, Ivory Coast’s Dobet Gnahore, and South Africa’s Freshlyground.

Come hang out with Carter and enjoy the toe‐tapping sounds tonight from 6–8:30PM SLT. You can join Carter in world at Madhu’s Café Indien, or listen in on Radio Riel’s main stream. Hope to see you there!
