A Baroque Festival

in Daily Programme, Zeeber Gold

by Elrik Merlin on Wednesday, 8 May, 2013

Today we present a concert of Baroque works from a varied range of composers including Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Rameau, Arne, Boyce and others, including performances of all kinds from solo instrumentalists to chamber groups to full orchestral ensembles.

You’ll hear recorder concertos from Vivaldi, keyboard variations from Bach, Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and Water Music suites, and works by Boyce including the Shepherd’s Lottery.

Zeeber Gold: Abbie Hoffman

Then join us at 11am or 7pm Pacific Time, 19:00 or 03:00 GMT, for the latest in our series of historic programmes featuring the cultural movers and shakers of the 1960s and early 1970s in Zeeber Gold. This week, it’s Abbie Hoffman. Say ZBS:

We produced this rare album of America’s crazy comedian, revolutionary and hanky panky artist [in 1971]. It was recorded up here at the Zeeber Farm, in our own studio, Froggy Acres. But no record company would touch it. So we figured, what the hell, we’ll put it out on our own label, Big Toe. Originally Abbie wanted to call the label Mafia Records – ‘Cause that’s what most of ‘em are, you know,’ is what he said. It features Abbie doing his comic routines at colleges in Texas, New York and Canada besides up here in our studio. Abbie also sings America’s favorites backed by The Joint Chiefs of Staff. Wait’ll you hear Our National Anthem, or the classic Cool Water, or the heart tugging Ave Maria, or Abbie’s rendition of Chicago, and finally – God Bless America. A totally outrageous album.”
