50 Years Above the Earth

Today we’re celebrating two space travel anniversaries that occurred yesterday: first, the 50th anniversary of the first human journey into space by Yuri Gagarin; and secondly the 30th anniversary of the first orbital test flight of the NASA Space Shuttle.

As a result, we’ll be playing selections of music with a space theme, from a wide range of genres, from rock to classical and with a variety of instrumentation. Artists range as widely as Isao Tomita and the Carpenters; Karl Jenkins and Brian Eno; and Holst and Mannheim Steamroller.

Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin and produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with our friends at the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme in-world now at http://main.radioriel.org, or simply click here to start your player, if your browser is configured to do so.
