Saturday Night Television

Today’s programme covers the gamut of TV music from the 40s to somewhere around the 80s, from both sides of the Atlantic with an extensive collection of classic TV themes.

In addition to themes for TV series there are plenty of instrumental interlude and test card pieces, and quite a few startup themes from various television stations of the British ITV variety, both original and modern recordings. Of course, with 24-hour television and total network homogenisation, you never hear any of them today.

Many of the 1960s themes in particular are really in the Lounge Music bag today, and there are quite a few well-known library music composers represented too. Many of the series themes are original recordings – but quite a few of them are not: sometimes the latter are deliberately performed in a lounge style and sometimes they’re simply cover versions!

Don’t miss the ZBS Radio Hour at 11am and 7pm Pacific (19:00 and 03:00 UK time), where we round off our two current series.
