Midsummer Prelude: An Early Music Festival

by Elrik Merlin on Thursday, 12 June, 2008

As a prelude to a Midsummer week of Shakespearian revels (see the SL Shakespeare Summer press release), today’s From The Library takes the form of a festival of Early Music, covering the mediæval to late Renaissance periods.

The programme includes both faithful renditions of music by some of the masters of the field, such as the late David Munrow, and Musica Reservata, covering both sacred and secular music (though with an emphasis on the latter), and some contemporary artists who present a lively and vivacious interpretation of Early Music, notably bands such as Wolgemut, Mince Pye, and a growing favourite among Radio Riel listeners, Corvus Corax.

From the Library is produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with the Caledon Library in Second Life, to inform, educate and entertain. Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.

You can listen to the programme now at http://music.radioriel.org — the ideal URL to plug into your home parcel media address in-world — or simply visit any Caledon Library branch in-world and press Play on your embedded music player. (If you want to listen off-world, eg in Winamp or iTunes, and the above address doesn’t work for you, click here.)
