Main: Songs of Innocence and of Experience

In today’s programme we are featuring settings of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and of Experience, including excerpts from the multi-Grammy-Award-winning Naxos recording of the complete setting of the poems by William Bolcom, who will be familiar to Radio Riel listeners for his renderings of Victorian and Edwardian ballads with his wife Joan Morris.

Bolcom’s settings are remarkable, not least for the vast variety of music genres that they cover, all of which will be familiar to Radio Riel listeners, being the eclectic lot we are. The programme also includes other settings of the poems, including the classic rock album by David Axelrod, and performances by Jean Danton.

In addition, we will be including selections of classical music.
