From the Library: Across the Channel

in Daily Programme

by Elrik Merlin on Monday, 5 July, 2010

Today we feature classical music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries from both sides of the English Channel, including a variety of French and English composers of the period including Debussy, Delius, Ravel, Elgar and more.

The image, painted by E W Cocks around 1840, shows the first crossing of the Channel by balloon, by Blanchard in early 1785. The flight from Dover to near Calais took four and a half hours.

Don’t forget that you can still sponsor an hour of Radio Riel programming in the Radio Riel Day for Life. Choose the music that we play all day on Sunday July 11 — all proceeds to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life! Click here for details.

From the Library is produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme now in-world at http://music.radioriel.org, or click one of the buttons below. Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.
