Bach and the Masters of the Baroque

Yesterday was the birthday of J S Bach – at least, it was 21 March 1685 in the old-style Julian calendar, but let’s not confuse ourselves. In any event, today’s programme on our Main Stream features music from the Baroque era and while it features the music of J S Bach, it also includes many other composers of the period, both well-known and seldom-heard.

Listeners may find it strange to discover that during his lifetime J S Bach was thought somewhat old-fashioned and behind the times, as other composers adopted more decorated rococo styles. Today, of course, it’s a different matter and there is a vast library of recordings of his work available, a selection of which we will hear during the programme.

The ZBS Radio Hour

Then at 11am and 7pm Pacific Time (18:00 and 02:00 GMT) tune in for two more installments of our classic radio serials from ZBS Foundation. At the top of the the hour we continue The Incredible Adventures of Jack Flanders while at the half-hour it’s the latest episode of Ruby 3: The Underworld. Don’t miss it!
