This week, as part of SL Shakespeare Summer, Radio Riel is running a week of music programming inspired by Shakespeare and his comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, culminating in a formal Ball on Saturday, June 21st. All programmes appear on our Main stream, http://music.radioriel.org.

Sunday: Music of the Fae – Gabrielle Riel plays music from the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.
Monday: From Groundlings to Gods – Music of Shakespeare’s time, and a flavour of Elizabethan theatre, from the library of Elrik Merlin.
Tuesday: Mendelssohn and his Mentors – Mendelssohn was not greatly impressed by the music of his time, preferring the Baroque and early classical. Presented by Soliel Snook.
Wednesday*: Songs of Summer – Music for a midsummer’s day presented by Gabrielle Riel. Plus listening parties for the Play at 1pm and 7pm SLT.
Thursday*: The Play’s The Thing – Elrik Merlin presents a selection of music composed to accompany, and inspired by, Shakespeare’s works.
Friday*: A Solstice Celebration – Soliel Snook digs deep to the roots of the midsummer festival with a varied programme of music.
Saturday: “Out of this wood do not desire to go” – Gabrielle Riel brings the week’s music together in a lead-up to the Midsummer Night’s Dream Ball.
*Programmes in the latter half of the week (indicated above with an asterisk) will also include a full-cast audio recording of the play.
