Today we’re leading off with the music of the 20s and 30s, but in fact the programme includes songs by composers such as Harold Arlen that continue right up to the 1950s.

The range is fairly wide, but it is most, but not all, jazz-based, running from original ballads, swing and big band recordings of the era, up to modern recreations of the popular music of the Weimar Republic from Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester.

Thanks to everyone who participated in one way or another in yesterday’s Riel Day for Life, and especially to Gabi for her marathon programming and organisational efforts. The Day was a great success – and don’t forget, you can still (of course!) make a donation to Team New Babbage Relay for Life. And if you’re a Second Life resident, bear in mind that the Relay itself is next weekend!

But today, relax and enjoy the music as we take you back to the time between the Wars.

From the Library is produced by Radio Riel in conjunction with the Alexandrian Free Library Consortium of Second Life. You can listen to the programme now in-world at http://music.radioriel.org, or click one of the buttons below. Today’s programme is presented by Elrik Merlin.
